At Monday's Fiscal Court meeting, McCracken County emergency management director Rob Estes and chief deputy director April Watson provided an overview of the response to the recent tornado that touched down in the Fremont community.
The two characterized quick, efficient teamwork of many volunteers collaborating, including the community's Dollar Store, fire station, and Fremont Baptist Church, which offered its building as a feeding center.
A large number of individuals and groups from a variety of places volunteered their time and hard work to help clean up the mess left in the wake of the storm. Others worked to feed the volunteers meals in between work sessions.
In other actions, Judge-executive Craig Clymer praised a recent trip to Washington, D.C., involving a number of local people and the mutual understanding and collaboration it promoted.
Clymer also introduced for discussion a portable stage the county owns, and encouraged the generation of ideas on the best ways to use it. The benefits it can provide also come with labor-intensive setting up and breaking down before and after events in which it is used. He also floated the idea of partnering with Paducah city government in its use and maintenance.
