A Mayfield man was arrested Thursday on charges of impersonating a police officer.
Mayfield police said 73-year-old James Dowdy told investigators he claimed to be employed through the FBI and was sworn in and had arrest powers.
He provided officers with fake credentials and informed officers he had a service weapon in his possession.
Dowdy had also threatened to arrest the business employee after he was served a lawful notice of trespass warning.
The FBI field office was contacted and confirmed Dowdy is not employed or contracted in any way through the FBI.
The firearm and fake credentials were seized as evidence.
Dowdy was lodged in an out-of-county jail.
