Mayfield man arrested after report of suspected child abuse

A Mayfield man was arrested Sunday after police were alerted by hospital personnel about injuries that indicated possible child abuse.

The Mayfield Police Department responded to Jackson Purchase Medical Center and spoke with the victim and the victim's parents. It was determined that the victim had received cigarette type burns to his body. 

Diagnosis by hospital staff showed they were first degree burns. 

Police interviewed and arrested 30-year-old Sherrod T. Shelton.  Shelton was lodged at the McCracken County Jail.

The victim was released from the hospital after treatment.
