A man was killed Wednesday morning after he reportedly opened fire on police officers at the Mayfield-Graves County Fairgrounds.
Officers with the Frankfort Police Department, assisting in Graves County, were patrolling at the tornado distribution center at the fairgrounds when an alleged armed man approached them.
State Police said he allegedly fired multiple shots in the officers' direction. They returned fire, hitting the suspect. He was transported to Jackson Purchase Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead by the Graves County coroner.
The man's identity has not been released.
KSP said the Frankfort Police Department has asked the state law enforcement agency to investigate the incident.
The distribution center at the fairgrounds was closed Wednesday for the investigation but is scheduled to reopen Thursday at 11 a.m.
