The Kentucky State Police are once again vying for the title of Best-Looking Cruiser.
The annual contest, put on by the American Association of State Troopers, pits state against state. Each state submits a photo of their best-looking cruiser for the public to vote on.
Kentucky has finished in the top five in the contest in each of the last eight years, scoring wins and the calendar cover in 2021 and 2022. Florida took the top spot last year.
Along with the cruiser, agencies also include special items from their home state or things of significance to their organization. That is the route Kentucky has taken this year. After photos in horse country and the coal fields, plus some of KSP’s tactical gear, this year’s photo of a 2024 Ford Mustang GT was taken at the Academy in Frankfort with a nod to the work it takes to earn the uniform.
The photo was taken in front of “The Trooper”, a ten-foot-tall bronze statue honoring the 39 Troopers who gave their lives in the line of duty. The statue is in the likeness of Trooper James W. McNeely, who drowned in the Kentucky River while attempting a rescue in 1972.
KSP Commissioner Phillip Burnett, Jr. said, "This year's contest photo symbolizes what it means to be a Kentucky State Police trooper, by showcasing the devotion, hard work, commitment and sacrifice that our troopers give to their local communities daily. We would be humbled and honored to have your vote and support on social media."
Voting is open now through 11 a.m. on Friday, July 10th, by clicking here.
