Kentucky Auditor and gubernatorial candidate Mike Harmon is making the rounds across western Kentucky leading up to his Fancy Farm appearance on Saturday.

Harmon spoke to the Paducah Rotary Club on Wednesday, and had a discussion with West Kentucky Star Thursday morning before a scheduled appearance at the Murray Rotary Club.

Harmon explained why he decided to run for governor, saying it took prayer and the desire for his children and grandchildren to live in a state and country where they feel they can accomplish anything.

"Sadly our current governor has put such a focus of fear over freedom instead of freedom over fear." Harmon continued, "He focused on fear over freedom when he shut down businesses, fear over freedom when he shut down in-person unemployment offices, and really focused on fear over freedom when he shut down our churches but left the abortion clinics open. We need a governor that will focus on freedom over fear, not fear over freedom."

From a policy standpoint, Harmon shared his excitement with the current Kentucky general assembly and its effort to move the state away from an income tax.

When asked what he would prefer the income tax be replaced with, Harmon said the general assembly is reducing it incrementally to see if it would even be necessary to offset its removal with tax increases elsewhere.

Regarding other policy positions, Harmon stated his support for more parental involvement in education. However, he said the big thing for him at this time was to travel the state and listen to the concerns of his fellow Kentuckians.
