The Department of Homeland Security, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were also involved as authorities arrested Ishank S. Rathore of Maryland Heights, Missouri, who was in the United States on a student visa from India.
The arrest stems from a sophisticated scheme where suspects impersonate officials from the "Federal Credit Commission." Victims were instructed to withdraw large sums of cash and wait for couriers to pick up the money.
The law enforcement operation successfully intercepted the network, which is suspected of exploiting numerous adults across multiple jurisdictions.
Rathore faces multiple felony charges, including theft by unlawful taking; engaging in organized crime; and wanton/reckless exploitation of an adult. He is being held in jail without bond.
Residents are strongly reminded that no legitimate government agency will ever instruct individuals to withdraw cash for physical pickup.
