WPKY reported that county, city and water officials started discussions on the project about a month ago.
Officials said the new water line will provide a backup source for water in Fredonia, a concern that came to mind in light of water problems this year in the neighboring city of Marion. They said the improvement will also result in lower water bills for Fredonia customers.
Officials said county funding for the project is already in place, along with $35,000 for a separate project to repair water valves along US 641 on the Lyon County side of Fredonia.
