Former Marshall and Livingston County school superintendent Kenneth Shadowen passed away Tuesday at the age of 80.
Shadowen's career in education started in 1966 as an elementary school teacher, then became principal at Smithland Elementary School. He was superintendent of Livingston County Schools from 1975 to 1988, then at Marshall County Schools until 2000.
The Shadowen Performing Arts Center at Marshall County High School was named after him.
He was also a past president of the Kentucky Association of School Superintendents.
Shadowen was a native of Crittenden County, where he will be laid to rest.
