The National Weather Service office in Paducah has finally concluded more than a week of storm damage surveys for what has turned out to be a record number of tornadoes for this office spawned in a single day.
The final surveys conducted on Thursday found an EF-1 tornado struck Princeton, IN, and an additional EF-1 was confirmed to have affected McMullin, MO that evening.
This brings the total number of tornadoes for the April 2 event to 22 for our 58-county warning area. It's the most tornadoes that have occurred in one day within the NWS Paducah area of responsibility since their office opened in 1995.
The previous one day record was 21 tornadoes which occurred on May 6, 2003.
Damage surveys were also conducted for storms on April 4, but no tornado damage was found.
