Beginning Sunday night, a contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to begin the final phase of a project that seeks to improve safety on area roadways by preventing motorists from turning the wrong way on interstate and parkway ramps.

During the first phase of the project, more than one hundred "Wrong Way", "Do Not Enter", "One Way" and "Stop" signs were installed at exit ramps along Interstate 24, Interstate 69, the Purchase Parkway and US 68.

Crews will be working nightly from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. restriping stop bars at these same locations. Stop bars are the thick white line painted on the roadway to tell motorists the proper stopping point.

It is expected that each ramp will be closed for approximately 30 minutes while the work is being completed.

Work is scheduled to take place between August 25 and September 5. There will be no work completed during the Labor Day Weekend (August 30 - September 2) or on Wednesday, September 4.

Restriping will begin at Exit 3 of I-24 in Paducah and work outward until all ramps have been completed.

Ramps included in this projects are:
Purchase Parkway exits 0, 1, 2 and 14
I-69 exits 21, 22, 24, 25, 27, 43, 47 and 71
I-24 exits 3, 4, 7, 11, 16, 27, 40, 45 and 65
U.S. 68 at KY 453 (The Trace Road) in Land Between the Lakes

The project includes exit ramps in both directions of the roadway.
