After being closed for two months by low water on the Mississippi River, the Dorena-Hickman Ferry has resumed service.
The ferry has been closed since September 12, when drought conditions caused river levels to drop to the 8th-lowest ever at Cairo.
This morning the river was at 17.15 ft. at Cairo. That allowed the ferry to access the Missouri Landing. The river is expected to rise to 19 ft. by the end of the week.
The open on its winter schedule with the last run from the Kentucky Landing at 4:15 p.m. and the last run from the Missouri Landing at 4:30 p.m.
The ferry is also still operating on a limited 5-day-a-week schedule until they can hire an additional pilot. The ferry is operating Thursday through Monday, but closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.
