A collision between two boats near Jonathan Creek claimed one life and injured another.

The crash happened Wednesday afternoon as two boats were coming off Kentucky Lake heading toward the boat ramp at Jonathan Creek. Marshall County Coroner Kenny Pratt told West Kentucky Star that one of the boats had slowed entering the bay while the second boat was coming in on plane. The operator of the faster boat did not see the slower boat in time to avoid the collision, running over the top of the other.

A man and a woman were thrown from the boat that was hit. Both were transported to Marshall County Hospital where the woman, later identified as 72-year-old Mary Reese of Herrin, Illinois, succumbed to her injuries. An autopsy will be performed on Reese Thursday in Louisville.

The male remains hospitalized.

The crash is still under investigation.

The Marshall County Rescue Squad along with the South Marshall Fire Department, East Marshall Fire Department, and Marshall County EMS responded to the crash.
