A Calloway County Sheriff's deputy was hit in the face and a taser had to be used on Sunday as a Hazel pair was arrested on drug charges.

A drug investigation led to an encounter with 51-year-old Jimmy Scott and 39-year-old Brandy Briggs outside a home in Hazel. Deputies said the two became hostile towards them. As one deputy tried to detain Scott, Scott allegedly struck him in the face and tried to run. Scott was tased and then arrested. Briggs was arrested after being hostile as well.

Deputies said they uncovered several baggies of meth under a car at the home where the two were taken into custody.

Scott was charged with trafficking in meth, fleeing or evading police, assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, obstruction, and disorderly conduct.

Briggs was charged with obstruction, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.
