The deadline to submit photos for the upcoming McCracken County bicentennial history book is fast approaching.

The submission deadline is Tuesday, July 30th.

“Even if you don’t know who is pictured but it’s still an interesting photo, we want you to send it,” said McCracken Judge Executive Craig Clymer. “I know there are hundreds of never-before-published photographs that our relevant to our local way of life. We are just asking for people to share them with the community.”

Clymer said the committee is looking for photographs of interesting people and places, buildings, events and activities, businesses, churches and schools, transportation, organizations, street scenes, and more. “We want to have a variety of images to best portray how our way of life has changed in the past 200 years.”

Photographs may be dropped off at the McCracken County Public Library or emailed to mccracken200thbook@acclaimpress.com .

Copies of the book may also be reserved for $49.95 .

McCracken County was formed on January 15, 1825 and was named after Captain Virgil McCracken, who was killed at the Battle of the River Raisin during the War of 1812.

McCracken County was originally part of Hickman County, but as population growth occurred, the territory was divided into Hickman, Graves, Calloway, and McCracken Counties.

In 1832, Paducah became the county seat of McCracken County. Paducah, originally known as Pekin, was settled around 1815.
