This week's rain is much needed across Kentucky, but some spots may get too much at once and experience some localized flooding.

Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms across are forecast area-wide  on Wednesday through Thursday morning. A few strong to severe storms cannot be ruled out, leading to a slight risk of excessive rianfall..

Embedded thunderstorms are most likely from 2-9 pm. Rainfall amounts of one-half inch to 1.5 inches are expected, but locally higher totals of 1.5 to 3 inches could occur, especially in western Kentucky.

Localized flooding could occur in the locations that receive the higher totals, especially under repeated rounds of storms, or in urban areas where the ground can't absorb the rain.

Isolated to scattered shower and thunderstorm activity will continue on Thursday, with the best chances along the I-64 corridor of southern Illinois.

A strong cold front will bring much cooler temperatures Friday into the weekend, followed by another warmup early next week.
