According to a news release issued Tuesday, Darkhorse, known by its subsidiary Pennyrile Holdings LLC, signed a contract with Hopkinsville Electric System to construct the data center known as Project Truckstop and fund establishment of a substation after signing a power contract with Hopkinsville Electric System.
The data center will use up to 50 megawatts of power annuially and will fund the construction of a 65-megawatt substation to power that data center and the remaining 15 megawatts generated will go to HES customers.
The substation will be a part of the Tennessee Valley Authority’s 161 kilovolt system, which will be owned by HES.
The system is responsible for transmitting electricity from a power generation facility to residences and businesses. TVA has approved the capacity needs of the project.
Darkhorse Technologies is not new to Hopkinsville as it has been operating at a site contracted for 15 megawatts at Hopkinsville Electric System's Holland Substation for around three years.
The site currently serves as a Bitcoin mining operation and the company has proposed converting it into an artificial intelligence factory titled Project Brickyard.
