Former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron said on Tuesday that he is here to stay in the race for the U.S. Senate.

Cameron is one of the front-runners for the Republican nomination to replace retiring Senator Mitch McConnell. Cameron called a news conference on Tuesday to reaffirm his position in the race and took aim at his principal competition, Sixth District Congressman Andy Barr.

It was a new tac for Cameron, who had stayed above the fray between Barr and Lexington Businessman Nate Morris.

Cameron said that with Trump’s endorsement of Barr, and Morris stepping aside, it allows for a clearer contrast, as he said, not just in background and in record, but also in their approach to serving Kentucky.

Cameron accused Barr of ducking a scheduled debate, saying he chose to run away from it.

Cameron announced that his campaign would be launching their “Kentucky First Tour,” traveling to all parts of the state in the two weeks leading up to the primary. He said it would give him an opportunity to meet and hear directly from voters.

For his part, Barr joined The Greg Dunker Show on Tuesday and said he was honored to receive the endorsement from President Trump. He said, despite the sometimes fiery nature of the exchanges between him and Morris, the two had been friends for more than 20 years, chalking the rhetoric up to politics.

Barr is already on tour and made stops in Logan and Christian Counties, among others, on Tuesday. He said he will have to go back to Washington next week for “his day job.” He did confirm he would be in Paducah for Friday’s televised forum with the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce.

Cameron will also be in attendance on Friday. He will also make an appearance on The Greg Dunker Show on Thursday.
