UPDATE: The National Weather Service office in Paducah has issued a flood watch in effect until 7am Thursday for most of the quad state.
Concern is increasing for the development of training thunderstorms and torrential rainfall that could cause flooding.
Meteorologists also posted that the need for a tornado watch is also a possibility tonight.
ORIGINAL STORY:
The threat for severe thunderstorms is still in place for this evening for much of the region.
Storms that develop in southeast Missouri could move into southern Illinois after 7pm and western Kentucky after 8pm.
The main concern in southeast Missouri is for damaging winds, large hail and a few possible tornadoes. The available energy will diminish after sunset, and the hazard will transition to damaging winds east of the Mississippi River.
Additional storms may develop overnight, but the severe threat with these would be much lower. The threat later would more likely be torrential downpours that could pose some flooding concerns.
