A brush fire outside Eddyville burned about six acres and an abandoned building on Friday afternoon.

The Eddyville Fire Department was dispatched when a small brush pile got out of control off Perry Springs Road and spread into a wooded area on Maple Loop.

Additional crews were called in from Kuttawa and Princeton, and Kentucky Utilities disconnected power to the building.

Initial crews acted to bring the structure fire under control while additional personnel used hand tools to cut fire breaks and slow the spread.

Crews remained on scene for about five hours to extinguish hot spots and remove trees that posed a safety risk.
