Governor Andy Beshear will visit Mayfield and Dawson Springs this weekend to hand over the keys to 10 new homes for tornado survivors, and to remember those lost two years ago this week.
Beshear updated Kentuckians Thursday on response efforts in western Kentucky ahead of the anniversary of the devastating tornadoes that took the lives of 81 people on December 10, 2021.
"Almost two years ago, our families in western Kentucky had their world forever changed. When I got there at first light, the destruction I saw was unimaginable," Beshear said. "But here's what else I knew from the moment I arrived: our people are unbreakable."
Beshear said that over the past two years, his administration has kept its promise to "be with western Kentucky until every home and every life is rebuilt," securing more than $800 million in federal and state funds to assist with recovery efforts.
