Benton man arrested in convenience store theft case

A Benton man was arrested after an alleged theft at the Little General Store on Main Street.

The incident took place on Thursday when a victim reportedly left their phone and wallet on top of a gas pump at the store. When they noticed they did not have the items, they returned to discover the items were gone. Using a "find my phone" tool, the phone was located near the store, having been apparently tossed from a vehicle.

Police obtained surveillance footage from the store allegedly showing the theft.

Benton Police put out photos and a call to the public to help identify a suspect in the case. As a result of the post, they located 19-year-old Jeffrey Stokes of Benton and charged him with theft by unlawful taking.
