Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is partnering with the Merryman House to open a diaper closet in Paducah.

On Thursday, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, State Senator Danny Carroll, and State representative Randy Bridges announced a $10,000 donation to Merryman House Domestic Violence Crisis Center.

The donation will be used to provide parents with complimentary access to diapers, wipes, creams, and related baby products.

In addition, Anthem has pledged $80,000 to open eight diaper closets across Kentucky.

According to the National Center for Children in Poverty, nearly 20 percent of Kentucky children live in low-income families with a single parent. Half of all children under six live in low-income homes.

Unfortunately, SNAP and WIC recipients do not qualify for free diapers, forcing some parents to reuse dirty diapers, change less frequently, or find inadequate alternatives.
