After reaching their original goal of 10,000 ducks adopted for the 7th annual Paducky Derby event, organizers have added 3,000 more ducks to the race.
Since 2017, the Merryman House Domestic Crisis Center has received support from the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet's federal Victims of Crime Act funding. Unfortunately, this year, the Merryman House received a 35 percent reduction in its federal funding due to budget cuts.
Before the Merryman House knew of the budget cuts, the PaDucky Derby duck adoption goal was set at 10,000. With two weeks to go until race day and all of the original 10,000 ducks adopted, officials have decided to place an additional 3,000 ducks up for adoption to help bridge the funding gap left by the grant reduction.
The race is set to take place on Saturday, October 23 at 3 pm at Montgomery Lake in Noble Park.
Adoption continues online, where you can adopt a single duck for five dollars, a "quack pack" of 6 for $25, or a flock of 12 ducks for $50. You can also arrange to form a team at your work, school, or church with your own adoption goals.
