Nearly 100 students, faculty, staff, and community leaders attended the grand opening and ribbon cutting of West Kentucky Community and Technical College's Student Success Center on September 14.

Serving students through the SCC was made possible through the $15 million donation from philanthropist and author MacKenzie Scott in 2020 through the National Philanthropic Trust, part of which became the seven-sector framework of The WKCTC Guarantee.

At the grand opening, WKCTC President Anton Reece shared about each sector of The WKCTC Guarantee, specifically discussing Sector 5, which is the Student Success Center, adding that he intentionally started developing that sector first.  $2.1 million of the MacKenzie Scott monies funds reflects the college's commitment to student success. This is the largest single investment of the seven-sector framework.

Tyra Frick, SCC director, said the center's mission is providing best practices in each of its service areas (first-year experience, academic support, success coaching) and collaborating across campus to advance student success.

She said the primary objective of the SCC and the work of the center team is empowerment.
