Two western Kentucky organizations are among nine recipients of this year's Governor's Awards in the Arts.
The Murray Art Guild was selected as the Community Arts Award winner, and Independence Bank in Graves County won the Community Arts Award.
The awards were announced on Wednesday by Governor Beshear. There will be a ceremony for the winners in the Capitol Rotunda on Tuesday, January 10th.
The Kentucky Arts Council handles the nominations and presentations for Governor Beshear.
The 2022 Governor's Awards in the Arts recipients are:
- Milner Award – Kaye Savage Browning, Mason County
- Artist Award – Amanda Matthews, Fayette County
- Business Award – Independence Bank, Graves County
- Community Arts Award – Murray Art Guild, Calloway County
- Education Award – Nan Moore, Jefferson County
- Folk Heritage Award – Maxine Ray, Warren County
- Government Award – Kentucky Native American Heritage Commission, Franklin County
- Media Award – Morgan Cook Atkinson, Jefferson County
- National Award – Bobby Osborne, Leslie County native
(The 2022 Governor's Awards in the Arts were created by artist Fred Nez-Keams of Mercer County. The award is hand crafted, playable Navajo flute. The artist created 10 awards — nine for the recipients and one for the Kentucky Arts Council's permanent collection.)
