The Murray Middle School speech team placed ninth overall at the Kentucky High School Speech League State Junior Tournament at the University of Kentucky in Lexington in late February.
The winners of seven regional contests faced off in three preliminary rounds of competition in 12 speech events. In each contest, the top 12 scoring entries in preliminary rounds advanced to the state semifinals The remaing top six in each competition advanced to the state finals.
Students from Murray Middle School students advanced from preliminary competition in five categories. Ava Podrovitz continued to the final rounds of both impromptu speaking and oratory, placing third and sixth respectively. Adeline Pitman moved on to the final round in humorous interpretation and placed third overall. In broadcasting, Adeline Pitman advanced to semifinals (top 12 statewide). Carrie Mills also advanced to semifinals in declamation.
