Fostering a growing and loving environment is a noted priority of all our winning teachers. Kara Brown, a Kindergarten Teacher at Murray Elementary is no different. She is one of seven Kindergarten teachers in the school and now she is the West Kentucky Star Teacher of the Month for March.

Did Mrs. Brown always want to be a teacher? “I did! I’m from a family of teachers.” Not only is she a teacher, from a family of teachers, she married a teacher too!

“I love being the first experience that kids and families have in school. Getting to create that positive environment from the very beginning to create that culture of ‘Loving to Learn’”, that’s Kara Brown’s favorite part about teaching kindergarten, other than reading of course! “My favorite [thing] is teaching kids to read. In Kindergarten I get to see that lightbulb go off.” Will she always teach? “Yes. I have my admin degree, but right now I don’t see that being used. I love being in the classroom.”

The award was presented during the morning elementary news played throughout the school. Her husband and sons were even there to surprise her!

West Kentucky Star Teacher of the Month, sponsored by Scott Walker Construction, will continue through each month of the school year. All 10 Teachers of the Month from the 2022-2023 school year will be considered for the favorite teacher in the 2023 West Kentucky Star Teacher of the Year.
