Murray-Calloway County Hospital recently held a retirement tea honoring Dana Bazzell, RN, Director of Perinatal Services, after her official retirement was postponed during COVID.
Bazzell, Director of Perinatal Services, was part of thousands of deliveries at Murray-Calloway County Hospital. She dedicated 44 years of care to new moms and families in the region.
When she began college at Murray State, she had plans to be an elementary education teacher, but after her son, Chad, was hospitalized in the pediatric area, she was so impressed with the care, and how the people treated their family, that she changed her major to nursing.
She graduated in December of 1975 from Murray State University and began on January 6, 1976, working on the 4th floor. She still has a copy of her first paycheck stub, where she made $3.98 an hour when she started.
During her retirement, she has enjoyed the simple things that she had less time for while working, such as yard work and gardening. Dana also loves to cook and bake . Although she misses her work family, she has been able to spend more time with her family and friends and is enjoying life.
