Weather radios will be out of service for three days next week

Weather radios in western Kentucky will be out of service next week for three days while the National Weather Service in Paducah gets a major computer system update.

The Paducah Weather Service office will have a required, scheduled update of their Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System. 

Beginning around 8 AM on Monday, all of the NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts provided by the NWS Paducah office will go offline. Broadcasts will resume after the update is completed on Wednesday.

During the update, forecast and warning operations will be conducted by NWS back-up offices in Louisville and Davenport, Iowa. No interruption of forecast products and weather watches, warnings and advisories are expected during this period. 

The KPAH, KVWX and KHPX radars will remain operational and products will continue to be distributed as normal. 

The NWS Paducah office will remain open and staffed at all hours throughout this update period to help support our backup  offices, and perform functions that can be completed without AWIPS.

During periods of outages, it is important to have multiple ways to receive warning information. Alternative sources include local television/radio, weather apps on your mobile device, such as the FEMA or Red Cross App, and at the NWS Paducah website at weather.gov/pah .
