A Pennyrile pair were arrested on an attempted murder charge after they reportedly fired shots at police during a pursuit on I-65 from Tennessee into Kentucky.

Kentucky State Police said they were notified around midnight on Saturday by the Tennessee Highway Patrol about the pursuit into Kentucky by the Portland, Tennessee police department. THP also told Kentucky law enforcement that the driver discharged a firearm.

KSP and other Kentucky law enforcement made multiple attempts to deploy spike strips, but the vehicle continued north before exiting onto I-165 at Exit 20.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop on Dewey Lake Road.

The driver, 26-year-old Edward Brown of Madisonville and the passenger, 22-year-old Anastasia Payton of Dawson Springs, fled from the vehicle on foot.

Brown was charged with attempted murder on a police officer; fleeing or evading police; possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and unlawful imprisonment.

Officials charged Payton with fleeing or evading police and possession of marijuana.

Officials with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office said Payton was entered in NCIC as a missing person.
