Former PVA Nancy Bock Sentenced to 4 Years (July) -- Bock pleaded guilty to seven counts of forgery and one count of theft on charges stemming from forged travel vouchers and unauthorized use of a state credit card. She resigned her McCracken County office in September of 2018, just before she was indicted.
9. Graves County Sheriff Dwayne Redmon Passes Away (February) -- Redmon had served more than 30 years in Graves County law enforcement, and became sheriff in 2011. He was 56.
8. Michigan Youth Coach Charged With Assault of Referee (April) -- At a youth basketball tournament at the Sports Plex, 40-year-old Keyon Menifield of Flint, Michigan reportedly punched and knocked out 60-year-old Kenny Culp of Paducah. Culp was treated at Vanderbilt Hospital for a broken collarbone, cracked sinus cavity and a concussion.
7. Real Estate Developer Mike Falconite Killed in Crash (March) -- Falconite died in a single-vehicle accident on Lovelaceville Florence Station Road. He ran Falconite Development, which included restaurants, retail, medical and office space.
6. Police: Man Backs Over, Kills Woman With RV (October) -- A Grand Rivers man and his Calvert City girlfriend were in an RV in the parking lot of the Paducah Convention Center. Police said that after an argument, Angella Hale was outside the RV when surveillance video showed James Vanvactor backed over her with the vehicle. He was reportedly still sitting in the vehicle when a witness found her a few hours later.
5. 17 Arrested in McCracken Prostitution Operation (January) -- The McCracken County Sheriffs department completed a weeklong investigation of prostitution activity on various websites. The operation resulted in arrests for those who placed the internet ads, and others who responded to the ads. Those arrested ranged from 22 to 66 years old, from Kentucky, Illinois, Georgia and Mexico.
4. Paducah Gets Double Crossover Diamond Interchange (March) -- The $9 million project for I-24 Exit 4 was announced in February. Construction began in March, and required that Hinckleville Road be closed at times during the spring and summer. The new roadway opened ahead of schedule in July. The only other local examples of the design, in which traffic moves to the left lanes to travel through the intersection, are found in Marion, Illinois, and Lexington, Kentucky. The 2012 Lexington project resulted in accidents reduced by nearly half.
3. Two Tornadoes Strike Paducah Area in 3 Months (March, June) -- On March 14, an EF-2 twister damaged the Mt Zion Baptist Church and daycare, but no one was injured. The storm continued on its 17-mile path to the Kentucky Oaks Mall area, where it damaged mall signage and rooftop air conditioners, and downed several power lines. On June 23, a cluster of brief tornadoes formed across western Kentucky, including an EF-1 twister from Lovelaceville through Hendron to Paducah's southside. Another EF-1 spun up at Kentucky Lake and overturned the marina structure at Moor's Resort.
2. Paducah Surgeon Killed in Small Plane Crash (October) -- On Halloween night, a private plane crashed on approach to Barkley Field in western McCracken County. The accident claimed the life of 49-year-old surgeon Dr. Clint Hill. There were no passengers in the aircraft, and no one on the ground was injured.
1. Paducah Man's Body, Van Pulled From River (December) -- On December 12, the van was spotted fifty feet from shore at the foot of Broadway by riverboat workers. That afternoon, fishermen on the bank saw the body of 49-year-old Keith Barnes of Paducah tangled in trees near the bank. Surveillance video showed that the van entered the river early on Dec. 9.
