Some students from Marshall County High School were taken to a trauma center in Nashville for treatment after Tuesday morning's shooting.

Dr. Oscar Guillamondegui, the Trauma Team leader at Vanderbilt University Hospital, told WSMV in Nashville about the five male victims they treated. They ranged in age from 15-18 years old.

Three of the victims had gunshot wounds to the head, and one of those, Preston Ryan Cope, did not survive. Another victim, later identified as Daniel Austin, had an arm injury that was treated by successful surgery. The fifth victim was wounded in the chest and abdomen, and underwent surgery as well. He was in the trauma intensive care unit Tuesday evening.

Guillamondegui said some of the patients were awake and alert when they arrived, but others had been intubated and sedated. He believes all four will survive.

He said the victim's parents were emotional, like many would be, but he believed they knew his team was doing all they could for the children.

Kentucky State Police said Tuesday night that three of the victims are in critical but stable condition and one is in stable condition.

WSMV reports one female victim was also brought to Vanderbilt by vehicle, and is in stable condition.
