UPDATE: The Marshall County Sheriff's Department released a statement at 4:17 pm, Sunday, saying they have located the suspected vehicle and driver. The case remains under investigation and the department says further information will be available on Monday, July 1.

A hit and run in the Palma community of Marshall County early this morning killed a Benton man. The Sheriff's Office is  asking the public for any information that would help them put the suspect behind bars.

The collision took place Sunday morning in the Palma community of Marshall County. The collision occurred along US 68 West between Griggstown Road and the McKenzie Park sub-division around 1 am.

According to a press release, 25-year-old Matthew W. Bonds of Benton was hit head-on as he was walking east along U.S. 68. Police say the vehicle fled the scene right after impact. Bonds died at the scene.

Evidence collected at the scene indicates that the vehicle police are seeking is either a Dodge Caravan or Grand Caravan; or a Chrysler Town and Country manufactured in 1999 through 2003. The Sheriff's Office says the vehicle will have damage to the right front side and possibly the passenger side.

The Marshall County Sheriff's Office encourages anyone with information about the vehicle or suspect to contact them at 270-527-3112.

Marshall County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Mark Balentine and Detective Dan Melone of are leading the investigation. The Benton Police Department, Marshall County EMS, Marshall County Coroner's Office and the Possum Trot-Sharpe Fire Department provided assistance at the scene.
