A Marshall County man was arrested on animal abuse and drug charges after an animal was shot Tuesday.

The Marshall County Sheriff's Office says deputies were dispatched to Possum Trot where a disturbance was ongoing, and an animal had reportedly been shot by one of the parties involved.

Deputies did not say what kind of animal was shot or if the shot was fatal.

The investigation led to the arrest of Benjamin Smith of Calvert City. Smith is charged with 2nd degree cruelty to animals, wanton endangerment, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.
