The Murray State University Police Department is investigating a report of a sexual assault on campus.

The university issued a "Timely Warning" Monday, after a student reported being sexually assaulted late Sunday night outside an academic building by a person they met on a social media app.

MSU Communications Director Shawn Touney tells West Kentucky Star the Murray State Police Department is conducting an investigation. He says investigators have identified a suspect in the case, who has been banned from campus.

"The Murray State Police Department is working with the Commonwealth’s Attorney on the appropriate enforcement action related to the case." Touney added.

University officials and community partners are reportedly providing recovery resources to the reporting student.
