“Bryan was an exemplary police officer who served the City of Mayfield.,” the police department said Wednesday on Facebook.
After having served with the United States Army and the Clinton Police Department, Bryan Morrison began his career at the Mayfield Police Department on Dec 21, 1998. He began as a patrolman, and served as a field training officer and firearms instructor. As a detective, he was specifically trained to investigate robbery, homicide, narcotic crime, and post blast investigative techniques by the ATF.
In 2003 and 2004, Morrison was named the Mayfield Police Department's Officer of the Year. In 2005, Morrison was honored with the department’s Exceptional Duty Award. Morrison was promoted to the rank of Detective Sergeant in 2006.
As Major in 2010, Morrison was awarded the Exceptional Motivation Award for his, “Selfless service and dedication to duty.”
Morrison was ultimately promoted to
Chief of Police in 2011, a position that he held until his
retirement due to illness on July 31, 2016.
"Chief Morrison was well respected by the
members of the department, and those men and women in blue mourn the
loss of a friend and brother," Mayfield Police Chief Nathan Kent said.
Funeral services for Morrison will be held at 2 pm on Saturday at Byrn Funeral Home in Mayfield. Interment will follow at Highland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm on Friday at the funeral home.
