A local postmaster is reminding residents to take special care to protect mail carriers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Smithland Postmaster Dora Carlson released a statement Tuesday asking all residents to maintain a safe distance from letter carriers at all times of at least six feet while they are performing their duties.
"It is important to note the CDC, the World Health Organization, and the U.S. Surgeon General have all said there is very low risk that this virus is being spread through mail," Carlson said.
Carlson also reminds residents that anything without postage and not related to USPS business should not be placed in mailboxes.
