The owners of a popular lakes area restaurant that was destroyed in a fire earlier this year have announced a groundbreaking date for construction of a new building.

Ann Martin, Director of Public Relations and Marketing for Patti's 1880's Settlement, said crews will begin construction on the new building on Aug. 6. A groundbreaking ceremony has been scheduled for 6 p.m., and the public is invited to attend.

"We are coming back stronger than ever and we're excited," Martin said. "The pictures will be there when they come to the groundbreaking ceremony. They'll be able to see the new building, and that is going to be a very proud moment for us. It's going to be gorgeous."

Although the new restaurant won't be open for some time, Martin said there has been a food truck on site that serves a variety of treats to visitors, as well as a gift shop and ice cream parlor. They are also offering different sales each day on Patti's signature products at www.pattis1880s.com.

Martin said the new building will preserve some of the same feeling and style of the old Patti's Restaurant, but will come with major improvements to the facility, and room to accommodate more patrons as well.

"It's going to have some new bells and whistles of course. The entrance may look a little different, but we'll still have that same feeling of the cedar look, the quaint rooms inside. We'll have several more rooms." She said.
