At their meeting Tuesday, the Paducah Area Community Reuse Organization formed a search committee to find a replacement for Executive Director Scott Darnell.

According to McCracken County Commissioner and PACRO Board Member Eddie Jones, he was named to the search committee along with Betsy Flynn, John Summers, Richie Galloway, and Marshall County Judge-Executive Kevin Neal, who is the PACRO board chair.

Darnell had been hired by PACRO last September after he was fired from his position as CEO of Paducah Economic Development. He had been leading PACRO meetings in that capacity for some time. For a couple of months in early 2019, Darnell's company, Align P.M., was also hired as a consultant by McCracken Fiscal Court.

Jones said PACRO and Darnell had a contract that runs through the end of the year, but Darnell has recently been hired by a company in North Carolina. It's not known when he will start the new job.

As for the search, Jones said they are taking resumes through the end of October. He said they're looking for applicants that have some experience with the former Gaseous Diffusion Plant, which is run by the Department of Energy, and familiarity with PACRO and its mission. The organization serves the area by mitigating the impact of the plant's closure by liquidating assets, promoting the site, advocating for federal funding for clean-up work, and creating area jobs.

Jones said resumes can be submitted to the five members of the committee, but recommended that they go to Kevin Neal at the Marshall County Judge-Executive's office.

"The committee of five are going to meet together with the interested parties and hopefully we'll be narrowing it down to four or five interested companies or candidates," Jones said.

Darnell has received a monthly check for his services for PACRO, along with a commission from surplus asset sales. Jones said he expects a similar arrangement with the future executive director.
