A local man already in jail on rape and sodomy charges now faces a new charge.

The Fulton County Sheriff's Department served a Hickman County District Court arrest warrant on 47-year-old David Garrett Wednesday at the Fulton County Detention Center. The complaint warrant was taken by the Clinton Police Department for sex offender instant messenger/chat/social network use prohibited by a registered sex offender.

According to the warrant, Garrett, of Hickman, contacted a juvenile on March 25 of this year through social media. Garrett's bond for this charge was set at $2500. He will be arraigned in Hickman County District Court on Monday.

Garrett was arraigned in Fulton County District Court earlier this week, where he entered a plea of not guilty to three counts of 1st degree rape and sodomy. Warrants for Garrett's arrest last week indicated he committed the acts against a minor in 2015 and 2016. According to records, Garrett is a lifetime registered sexual offender who transferred from Illinois. His original conviction was for sexual battery in the state of Indiana.
