A Kevil man was arrested Tuesday night after a police pursuit through Kentucky and Illinois.

The Ballard County Sheriff's Office said deputies saw a car on US 60 being driven by 31-year-old Lance Dakin of Kevil, who they believed to have active arrest warrants.

Deputies said when they attempted to stop his vehicle, Dakin began to drive erratically and fled onto US 51 in Wickliffe. He approached a work zone on the Ohio River Bridge, driving dangerously close to construction workers.

A Cairo Police officer attempted to stop Dakin as he exited the bridge and entered Illinois. Dakin intentionally struck the patrol vehicle, severely damaging it.

Dakin continued to flee through Cairo, before exiting the vehicle near the Ohio River. He attempted to flee on foot into the river, but was quickly apprehended by deputies in the water.

Dakin was arrested by Cairo Police for his violations in Illinois. Deputies said he will also be charged in Kentucky.

Dakin's warrants out of Kentucky include firearm and drug charges, as well as a Parole Violation Warrant.
