Drivers on western Kentucky roads could encounter mowing or painting crews for about the next month.

Mowing crews are starting a little late because of recent heavy rainfall. Work zones will be marked with temporary signs where crews will pick up litter and follow with mowing equipment.

Contractors will be working along area interstates, parkways and U.S. highways. State crews are ramping up work on some U.S. highways and rural secondary highways. They will be working anytime weather allows for about the next month.

Painting crews will also be on area roads, striping as they go. They will have to make several passes in order to complete work on each highway. Crews typically work at a brisk speed, but some traffic backups will be possible. Paint is fast-drying, but drivers are encouraged to avoid driving through the striping in active work zones.

Painting will stop for the Memorial Day weekend, but resume the following week. Crews will be out during daylight hours as weather allows.

Use caution if you approach any of these crews.
