Floyd is a 1952 graduate of Cuba High School. He was a member of the 1951 state runner-up Cuba Cubs and the 1952 state champion Cuba Cubs.
He was named All-state in 1951 and 1952. He played in the 1952 North-South All-Star Game. He spent one season at Murray State University, where he started as a freshman. He then went to Northeast Mississippi Junior College, where he set the all-time scoring record. He ended his college career at Southern Mississippi.
Floyd is a member of the Kentucky Basketball Hall of Fame and the Mississippi Basketball Hall of Fame.
The memorial service will include a meal, catered by Southern Reds of Pilot Oak and a devotional by Buddy Copeland. Jimmy Webb will share some “Doodle” stories and memories. Others expected to speak include Floyd's team members, classmates and friends from the Pilot Oak and Cuba communities.
As part of the memorial service, there will also be a “Reunion of Legends of West Kentucky and the 1st Region.” Barney Thweatt, a member of the 1948 state champion Brewers Redmen, will introduce the Legends and talk about how the group was founded. He'll also share some “Doodle” stories and memories.
