A farm accident Tuesday morning claimed the life of a Mayfield man.

Mayfield and Graves County first responders were called to a farming operation Tuesday morning on KY Hwy 1710 for a man trapped in a grain bin.

The initial investigation revealed that an employee, 44-year-old Adolfo Garcia, had gotten inside the 80,000 bushel capacity grain bin in an attempt to dislodge a portion of corn that was stuck. A witness and coworker reported that a large amount of corn collapsed on the victim as it was dislodged.

Crews from the Graves County Rescue Squad, Mayfield Fire Department, Sedalia Fire Department, Graves County Emergency Management, Graves County Sheriff's Office, and Mayfield Graves County Ambulance Service responded to the incident.

Emergency crews, including several area farmers with semi-trailers, tractors, and offloading equipment, assisted in the rescue efforts. Several pieces of farm machinery needed for the rescue effort were escorted through Mayfield by the Mayfield Police Department

Crews were eventually able to free Garcia Tuesday afternoon.  Garcia was pronounced deceased by Graves County Coroner Brad Jones and an autopsy is being scheduled.

Garcia is survived by his wife and five children.
