A Graves County man was arrested on drug and gun charges Tuesday after a foot pursuit at the Mayfield Graves Country Club Golf Course.

According to Graves County Sheriff Dewayne Redmon, 34-year-old George Haynes of Mayfield was traveling south on KY 121 in a vehicle when a detective recognized him and knew that an active arrest warrant was on file. Haynes exited off of KY 121 onto North 17th Street and pulled into the parking lot of a nearby business.

As deputies were speaking with him and leading him to the cruiser to place him inside, Haynes fled on foot across 17th Street and onto the golf course. He was apprehended and led back to a cruiser where he complained that he was having health issues.

EMS was immediately dispatched and he was taken to Jackson Purchase Medical Center, where he was treated and released. While searching for prescribed inhalers he asked for, deputies found a handgun and some illegal drugs in the bag with his inhaler. An additional handgun was found in a compartment inside the vehicle.

Haynes was lodged in the Graves County Jail on charges of fleeing and evading, wanton endangerment, resisting arrest, four counts of trafficking in controlled substance, trafficking in marijuana, two counts of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia.

All the trafficking charges were firearm enhanced which increases the severity of crime and penalty.
