Marshall County officials are working to increase the security at several of their schools.

Superintendent Trent Lovett spoke with West Kentucky Star about the future upgrades. He said all of their schools have a buzzer system at the door and security cameras, but four of them do not have secure vestibules yet.

At their Monday meeting, the school board had planned on voting to approve the plans for the secure vestibules, but the architect working with the county didn't have the plans completed, so officials tabled the vote until their March meeting.

Lovett says that although four of the schools do not currently have secure vestibules, there are no security concerns.

He said, "They're all secure. You can't just go walk into any of our schools without pushing a buzzer, and they all have a camera and they can see who's trying to come in."

After the eventual vote on the plans, Lovett says construction will begin this summer, as originally intended.
