A man charged with the attempted murder of a Christian County Sheriff's Deputy was found dead in jail Thursday morning.

The Christian County Coroner's Office reports 32-year-old Bradley Dunning of Dawson Springs was found dead just before 8 am Thursday after an apparent suicide.

WKDZ says that on June 6 Christian County Sheriff's Deputy Brandon Myers was on routine patrol by Eagle Way Bypass and Pennyrile Parkway when he saw an ATV that had crashed.

Deputy Myers went to help the driver, who was later identified as Dunning, who was claiming that he was injured. According to WKDZ, when Deputy Myers tried to help the driver, Dunning pulled out a handgun to shoot the Deputy in the head. The weapon malfunctioned and did not fire.

Deputy Myers arrested Dunning and called for backup.

Dunning was charged with three counts of attempted murder of a police officer, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, receiving stolen property under $10,000, first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief and first-degree persistent felony offender.
