The Department of Art & Design is pleased to present “Living Loss,” an exhibition of artwork by Michelle Burdine, visiting assistant professor of photography. The exhibit will be on view in the Clara M. Eagle Upper Gallery through February 14. Burdine holds a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from Ohio State University, a Master of Humanities from Wright State University, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in humanities from Antioch Midwest and an Associate of Applied Science from the Ohio Institute of Photography. Burdine has been teaching photography at the postsecondary level since 2007.
Calista Lyon’s exhibit, “the horizon as a dark line,” will be on view in the Mecoy Hall Gallery through February12. Lyon will also visit campus in February; details on her visit are forthcoming. Born in Nagambie, Australia, in 1986, Lyon received a diploma of art in applied photography from Melbourne Polytechnic in 2006. Relocating to the United States in 2012, she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in studio art from California State University in 2015 and an MFA in photography from Ohio State University in 2019. She is currently a lecturer in the Department of Art at Ohio State.
“Transmogrification,” an exhibit of work by Colorado-based artist Donald Fodness, will run through February 17 in the Clara M. Eagle Gallery. Fodness will visit campus to give an artist talk on February 4, at 5 pm in Price Doyle Fine Arts Center, room 631. Fodness earned a BA in art history from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MFA in painting from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He has an interdisciplinary practice that includes drawing, sculpture, furniture and installation, and his drawings have been exhibited nationally and internationally. He has also created site-specific installations for the Denver Art Museum, The Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, The Gallery of Contemporary Art in Colorado Springs, two Biennial of the Americas and Harmony Hammond's Material Engagements at Redline. His work has been published in “New American Paintings,” “Sculpture Magazine,” “Found Magazine,” ”The Creators Project,” and “art LTD.”
"The first set of exhibits for the spring 2020 University Art Galleries season features three solo exhibitions by artists who incorporate both 2D and 3D elements into their diverse studio practices,” said T. Michael Martin, director of the Murray State university art galleries. “Each artist blends a variety of references and sources in a unique way to create their respective work and expand beyond traditional visual art boundaries. Visitors will discover something within each exhibit that will spark lively conversation and inspire their imaginations. "Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 am to 6 pm and Fridays from 8 am to 4:30 pm. All gallery events and artists talks are free and open to the public.
