Mary Ruble of the KEA said, “Whitaker’s involvement in and passion for public education carried the day. Her well-informed answers to the committee’s questions reflect the knowledge and experience she has gained as a member of the Graves County School Board.”
Whitaker, elected to the Graves County School Board after helping lead a successful grassroots movement opposing the Kentucky Department of Education’s attempt to force the consolidation of the elementary schools in Fancy Farm and Lowes, said she was honored to have the support of Kentucky’s educators.
“Education is the key to every child’s future and the future of our communities. We must have a strong education system if we are to have a strong economy that attracts the kind of good-paying jobs that will support workers and their families. I am honored to receive the support of teachers throughout the 2nd District and across the Commonwealth.”
Following Democrat Rep. Fred Nesler’s decision not to seek reelection, four candidates are vying for the 2nd House District seat. Whitaker and Arthur Byrn face off in the Democratic Primary, and Patrick Fisher and Richard Heath in the Republican Primary. The respective nominees will advance to the General Election in November.
